A photograph alone cannot authenticate a stone or prove how an object was made. These nine checks help you ask better questions and identify listings that need clearer information.
Inspect the artwork: checks 1–3
Request a close-up of the joins, an edge view and a short video in ordinary light. Check whether the decoration is described as fitted inlay, paint or print; these are different techniques.
Verify the specification: checks 4–6
Ask for individual material names, measured dimensions and the exact included items. Natural variation is possible, but it should not be used to explain an undisclosed substitution.

Check the transaction: checks 7–9
Confirm the seller's contact details, written delivery terms and return process. For expensive or disputed material claims, seek an independent assessment instead of relying on a visual guess.
